Birthday Treat Activities

What to do at the weekend, What's on at the weekend?

Birthday parties for 1 year olds are more of a celebration treat for the family..especially the grandparents. Let's face it your one year old has a party every day! So make it a family celebration, but don't forget baby.

2-year-old birthday parties don't need too much organisation; certainly no entertainers required. Keep it simple, invite just family and a few special friends and stick to balloons and good old 'pass the parcel' type games. 90 minutes is about right, not much longer and make a big thing with the cake and candles. You are bound to find a CD with lots of kids party songs including 'happy-birthday-to-you'.

Those re-lighting candles are good, especially when someone else chooses to blow out the candles first!

3-year-old birthday parties are often when mums and dads simply drop them off and collect them, so ensure you have some reserve mums. They might need reassurance and certainly will need help with the toilet. If you can, ask mums to stay, it will keep your work down. Music and games are great and you might want to think about an entertainer.

4-year old birthday parties start to come to life by themselves. Be warned there's a lot of running around and over excitement so be armed with plenty of games to them occupied. An entertainer would be a good idea, perhaps a themed party with co-ordinated party accessories. Think about their favourite TV show, you will certainly find hats, plates and decorations in 'The Tweenies' or 'Lazy Town'.

5-year old birthday party; ask yourself do you really want it in your home? If the budget allows, think village hall and entertainer. Especially one that can easily handle a bunch of five year olds! The cinema might not be a bad idea or playground and picnic. Theatre and a Happy Meal? Open top bus ride!

6-year old birthday parties lend themselves to art and craft activities, pot painting is messy and great fun, the kids get souvenirs they made themselves and someome else gets the mess.

7-year old birthday party can be tamer. With a good entertainer and some well organised games it can be a peaceful event!
